Biography

——-

Tomoko Hayashi

Having lived in the vast deserts of the USA, the wilds of Ireland and Scotland, and the contrasting metropolises of London and Tokyo, she began exploring the theme of ‘human intimacy’ and working with new technologies that evoke emotional connections through the five senses. She has exhibited her interdisciplinary work in a variety of countries, including the V&A, London (2005); the National Museum of Art, Osaka (2007); the Centre for Contemporary Art, Torun, Poland (2013); and the Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto, Japan (2015). In recent years, as a result of her contact with the nature and culture of Kyoto, the theme of her work has expanded to include the relationship between the nature within us and the nature outside us. Her recent solo exhibitions ‘Reweaving the Rainbow’ (2021) and ‘and the world is mud’ (2024) organically interweave the dynamic flow of human consciousness with the processes of creation and decay of life and celestial bodies that occur on micro and macro scales. Her work seeks to reveal the invisible dynamics that permeate our inner and outer nature.
