Bodhisattva Pond

The Mizoroike Pond, which is located just down the mountain where the Kamigamo Observatory where the artist’s grandfather was observing earthquakes, is said to have existed for 140,000 years and is a place where many legends such as the Ryujin legend remain. It has also been a treasure trove of resources that have been a source of livelihood for people since the Jomon period, and the creatures that live there, from dependent species during the Ice Age to many rare species, still exist and are blessed with a rich ecosystem.

While going to the Mizoroike Pond many times and doing fieldwork, I came across a place that emits the rainbow light produced by iron bacteria illuminated by sunlight. Rainbow-colored light emerges on the pile of undecomposed plant remains, pollen, dead insects, and volcanic ash that has flown from the distance due to a large eruption.
