Distance – grandfather presents memories of the artist’s grandfather through her eyes. It employes photographs that she took through a trip to his beloved hometown of Kumamoto and followed his footsteps, of working in a field of geophysical exploration, according to the photographs taken by him as well as his detailed diaries and autobiography. The very first job that he got was to take care of a huge German earthquake detector at Aso volcanological Laboratory owned by Kyoto University, which is located on top of the hill in the middle of nowhere. The artist visited this lab and she could find traces of him in many things she encountered there.
